Before the Snow Falls 5The kitchen was hot and steamy.  The oven was the source of the action.  Esme was watching the goose inside with the look of an obsessive paranoid.  Charlie was sitting down, mixing up a pan of roasted vegetables.

“Just relax, Esme.”  He told her in a soothing voice.  She was one step away from biting her perfect nails, I observed, pushing open my shield so Edward could hear this.  He held back a laugh.
